iNaturalist is a global citizen science platform that connects people with nature by allowing users to photograph, identify, and document plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms while contributing valuable biodiversity data to scientists, conservation organizations, and land managers.
Since joining iNaturalist on April 2, 2016, Kelly Krechmer has become a leading contributor of biodiversity observations, documenting thousands of species and supporting conservation projects across the United States.
Her work includes major contributions to projects focused on Glacier National Park, AMC Maine Woods, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, Kiptopeke State Park, Maine bee and Hymenoptera surveys, and regional biodiversity initiatives.
Kelly is the curator for projects including Virginia’s Piedmont biodiversity mapping effort and Galls of Virginia.
She has participated in numerous bioblitz events, including the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust Bioblitz, Virginia Bioblitz, National Moth Week, and the City Nature Challenge, where she contributed the highest number of observations for the Washington, DC metropolitan region in 2017.
Through her science communication work, she further shares her conservation experiences through her YouTube channel, Substack publication Flappy Winged Wizard, and birding-focused social media platforms.
